Laughlin Appointed Chair of Senate Law and Justice Committee

HARRISBURG – Following being sworn into office on Tuesday, Sen. Dan Laughlin (R-49) was appointed as chair of the Senate Law and Justice Committee.

“I am honored Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward selected me to chair the Law and Justice Committee,” said Laughlin. “There are plenty of issues the committee will address, but it’s no secret that I’d like to keep working on an open, free-market approach to adult-use cannabis legalization that is grounded in safety and social equity, enhances our state’s agricultural industry, reduces the marijuana black market in Pennsylvania and generates needed tax revenue for our state.”

“I’m also interested in continuing efforts to modernize our state’s liquor laws to bring more convenience, value and options to Pennsylvania consumers,” added Laughlin.

“I am pleased to appoint Sen. Laughlin as chair of the Senate Law and Justice Committee,” Ward said. “His experience, knowledge and thoughtful approach to addressing issues will position him well to lead this committee as we address critical issues to position Pennsylvania and our residents to prosper now and in the future.”

The Senate Law and Justice Committee is responsible for reviewing legislation, regulations and policies pertaining to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and the Pennsylvania State Police.

Tuesday’s swearing-in ceremony officially starts the Pennsylvania General Assembly’s 2025-26 legislative session.
